Track your journey with movies, TV, books, and podcasts
A watchlist and a “seen” list answer two questions: what do I want to get to, and what have I done? Real life has more states than that. You are halfway through a book. You paused a series in season two. You gave up on a podcast after three episodes. You loved a film so much you want to talk about it.
Contentualize tracks all of that with your Journey: where you are with each movie, TV show, book, or podcast, how it went, and how that changed over time. This guide covers the statuses, the reactions, where you set them, and how to find everything in My Journey.
Status: where you are right now
Every title in your Journey has one status at a time:
- Planned. You want to get to it someday.
- In Progress. You have started it and you are partway through.
- On Hold. You paused it and plan to come back.
- Finished. You are done with it. Next, you say how it felt.
- Dropped. You stopped and are not planning to go back.
The words follow the medium. Planned reads “Want to Watch” for a movie or show, “Want to Read” for a book, and “Want to Listen” for a podcast. In Progress is Watching, Reading, or Listening. Finished is Watched, Read, or Listened. On Hold and Dropped are the same everywhere. So a book is never “seen” and a podcast is never “watched.”
Journey: the history behind the status
The status is where you are now. Your journey is every change that got you there, with dates. A book can go Planned, then In Progress, then On Hold, then In Progress again, then Finished. Its status is Finished, and its journey is all five steps.
On a title’s page, once there are two or more steps, you will see that history under Your Journey. Re-rating a title is part of the story too, so it shows up as an entry rather than overwriting what came before.
How it felt: reactions on finished titles
When you finish something, you say how it felt:
- Favorite. One of your favorites. Favoriting also joins you to that title’s Circle, so you can talk about it with people who love it too.
- Liked. You enjoyed it.
- Indifferent. It was fine. Neither good nor bad.
- Disliked. You did not enjoy it.
Indifferent matters because “finished with no strong feeling” is a real answer. It is different from not having reacted yet. A reaction only applies to a finished title; a book you are still reading does not have one.
Where you set your status
You never have to open a special screen to keep your Journey up to date. The same choice is available wherever you meet a title:
- Discover. Tap the bookmark on a card. A sheet asks where you are with the title, and for Finished it asks how it felt. Swipes and the other buttons still work as before: like, dislike, favorite, skip, and Not Interested.
- For You. Each pick has an “I’ve watched it” button (worded “I’ve read it” or “I’ve listened to it” for books and podcasts) that opens the four reactions. A separate Journey button covers Planned, In Progress, On Hold, and Dropped. After you choose, the card shows the result with a Change link.
- Title page. Under Your Activity you can mark Liked, Disliked, Favorite, Indifferent, or Not Interested. Under Your Journey you can set Planned, In Progress, On Hold, or Dropped. There is no Finished button on purpose: choosing a reaction finishes the title.
- Your history. In Discover, open Your history to see the last 20 titles you reacted to, newest first, like an update feed. You can change a reaction, change your status, skip it, or mark it Not Interested right from the row.
My Journey: everything in one place
Open Profile, then Activity, and you will find the My Journey card with a count for each status. Tap a status, or open the full page, to browse your titles:
- Pick a status tab: All, Planned, In Progress, On Hold, Finished, or Dropped. Each shows its count.
- Under Finished, filter by how it felt: Favorite, Liked, Indifferent, or Disliked. Liked includes your favorites, since a favorite is a title you liked most.
- Narrow by type (movies, TV, books, podcasts) and search by title or genre.
Newest changes come first, and each row carries its status badge, so “what was I reading?” and “what did I love last year?” are one tap each. My Journey is part of your account, so guests see it after they sign up.
Changing your mind and starting over
You can change a status or a reaction any time; the old step stays in the history. If you want a clean slate for one title, use Reset at the bottom of Your Journey on its page. Reset puts the title back to unrated: your rating, status, and favorite are cleared, and it can show up in Discover again. The history is kept and ends with a “Reset to unrated” entry, so rating it again continues the same story.
What is not part of the Journey
Not Interested and Skip are Discover signals, not Journey statuses. They tell Contentualize what you do not want to see right now; they do not put a title on your Journey. If you skip something by accident, it can come back.
Bringing your history over
If you already track films on Letterboxd or books on Goodreads, you can import those ratings. Titles you rated three stars arrive as Indifferent, which is how that rating reads in your Journey. You can review and adjust every imported title from Connected Accounts in your profile settings.
How the Journey fits the rest of Contentualize
Your Journey sits on top of the loop the homepage describes. You rate titles in Discover, you get fresh For You picks after five ratings in a day, and you can talk about a favorite in its Circle. The Journey is the record of all of it: what you planned, what you started, what you finished, and how it felt.
FAQ
What is the difference between status and journey?
Status is where you are with a title right now. Your journey is the dated history of every status and rating change behind it.
Do I have to use the Journey?
No. You can keep swiping, rating, and skipping exactly as before. The Journey is there for the titles you want to keep track of.
Why is there no Finished button on a title page?
Finished comes from choosing how it felt: Favorite, Liked, Indifferent, or Disliked. Picking a reaction finishes the title.
Is Dropped the same as Not Interested?
No. Dropped is a Journey status for something you started and stopped. Not Interested is a Discover signal for something you never want to try.
Does Favorite do anything different from Liked?
Both count as a liked rating. Favorite also joins you to the title’s Circle.
Can I change a reaction later?
Yes. Change it from the title page, from Your history, or from a For You card, and the earlier step stays in the history.
What does Reset do?
It puts a title back to unrated and clears your rating, status, and favorite. The journey history stays, and the title can appear in Discover again.
